The Front Steps Project

The Front Steps Project

A COVID-19 Community Photography Project

At the end of March when the social distancing regulations were first put into place I started seeing so many creative ideas from other photographers and especially loved the front steps project created by Cara Soulia in Massachusetts. The idea of the project was to photograph families in front of their homes while following social distancing guidelines to caputure this unique time in history. In turn each photographer picked a local charity that was helping with the pandemic to donate all the proceeds to.

I loved the idea and knew I wanted to join! A local charity called 31-Backpacks came to mind right away. They provide food to our local at risk children through weekly bags of food at school. Usually they provide the food to children on Fridays to help get them through the weekend but with schools closed they needed more help now than ever. As an aide in a local classroom, I see first hand how much the program is needed and was excited to help them in a small way!

What a great way to combine two things I am passionate about, photography and children!

Well, I went forward with it and our local community did not dissapoint! Throughout April I photographed about 30 amazing families all willing to do their part in helping our area kids!

Here’s a little peek into the project!

I was able to meet so many awesome people and catch up with family, friends, coworkers, and past clients. It was such an wonderful experience. Thank you Houghton County for being the amazing community I proud to be a part of!

The Local News even did a story when I first started the project. Thank you TV6 for bringing awareness to the project and helping 31 Backpacks!

Until next time!
