Newborn Photography
Happy Tuesday friends!
Today’s post is about newborn photography and my approach. I am doing a two part series, today is about newborn sessions and tomorrow will be about Fresh 48 or in hospital sessions.
I have had clients ask me if I do newborn sessions and the answer is YES!! If you know me, you know how much I adore babies, so being able to capture this special time in clients lives is so special to me!
My phone camera roll is full of the sweetest little faces that I can’t get enough of. There is something about holding a baby, all the cares of the world seem to fade away even if just for a minute.
And if you follow me on Instagram and stories you know how seriously I take my “Auntie” status! haha! It’s been the best gift God has given me to be able to love on all these sweet kiddos
Let’s break down what to expect at a newborn session:
My photography approach is a mix of lifestyle and classic portraiture. I love to use my clients home’s as inspiration and capture the adoring parents and siblings in their own environment loving on their precious little bundle. I also bring a few props to get a few photos of just your baby to make sure you have options. It’s a simple, and timeless setup that puts all the attention on that precious face!
WHO: Who should be included in these photos?
That is up to you. The bond between a mom and her baby is unlike any other and it’s a treasure to capture. But let me say, have you ever seen a first time dad or a proud sibling with their new baby brother or sister? Absolutely precious! I recommend at least mom being in a few photos but love when I am able to get the whole crew to participate as well, I promise you will treasure them all!
WHAT: What will I use in the photos?
I bring a few minimal and simple props but like to use the clients home as an inspiration and with your permission will use small props like blankets, hats, headbands for your baby. I think babies photograph best without clothes but instead swaddled in blankets.
WHERE: Where does the session take place?
Bringing a baby into the world can be a bit overwhelming and new moms usually feel most comfortable at home. As long as there is adequate natural lighting I do sessions in your home to make it as stress free as possible. Even if the living area isn’t well lit, most homes have a bedroom or another room that has great lighting. I am happy to look around to find the best place! If clients prefer, I can do sessions in my home as well.
WHEN: When should I have my baby photographed?
Babies photograph best in the first 2 weeks of life as they are usually sleepy and still like to be bundled. They love to cuddle up in a warm blanket and be held close to mom for photos.
Enjoy a slideshow of some of my newborn work. Goodness, they are just so precious! 💕

All this to say, I know and love babies and would absolutely LOVE to share this special time with your family and document those fleeting moments.
